The Difference

Why Homeowners Choose Home Fortress Roofing & Construction for Gutter Guards in Middletown

  • Fewer clogs at the downspout

Most clogs form where the gutter drops into the downspout, because that is where leaves pile up. A guard stops the bulk of that debris at the top of the gutter.

  • Gutter checked before it is covered

A guard hides the inside of the gutter, so problems under it go unseen. We look at the gutters and fascia and show you photos before any guard goes on.

  • Roof edge left flat

Some guards tuck under the first row of shingles and some fasten to the gutter alone. Roofing is our main trade, so ask us how the guard we propose meets the shingles.

What gutter guards do, and where they fall short

An open gutter catches everything that comes off the roof and everything that falls from the trees above it. Leaves, seed pods, twigs and the granules that wear off asphalt shingles all wash toward the downspout.

When enough collects, the outlet plugs and the next rain goes over the edge. A gutter guard is a cover or insert that lets water in and holds the larger debris out.

More about gutter guards

Screens are the plainest guard type: a perforated or woven panel that blocks leaves but lets small debris through. Micro-mesh guards use a much finer mesh that stops shingle grit and pine needles, though the surface can need a brush-off when wet leaves mat on top.

Reverse-curve covers are solid hoods that rely on water clinging to a rounded nose and rolling into a slot, and foam and brush inserts sit inside the gutter itself.

Those are general product types. Ask us at the estimate which one we are proposing for your house.

No guard makes a gutter maintenance-free. Debris still lands on top.

Most of it dries and blows off, but some stays, especially below roof valleys where a lot of water and leaves arrive at one spot. In a hard downpour, water coming fast off a steep roof can skip over some designs.

A guard is only as good as the gutter under it. If a run sags, water sits in the low spot with or without a cover. If a seam leaks, it leaks under the guard where nobody can see it.

So we look at the gutters and fascia first and show you photos. On a roof job in Elkton, MD, posted September 21, 2026, we replaced rotted fascia around the perimeter, wrapped it in aluminum and replaced the 5 inch gutters with new 6 inch ones. On rotted fascia like that, the boards are replaced before any guard goes on.

How the guard attaches matters to the roof. Some designs slide under the first course of shingles. Done carelessly, that lifts the shingle edge, breaks the seal strip, or tilts the guard so water runs behind the gutter.

Other designs fasten to the gutter or the fascia and never touch the shingles. Either can work if the shingles still lie flat and water lands on the guard.

We install gutter guards, and we install the gutters they sit on. One Google reviewer had us put up new gutters with gutter guards and new downspouts as part of a larger exterior project.

We do not clean gutters. We would sooner say so up front than have you assume a cleaning visit comes with the job. If guards are not worth it for your house, we will tell you that too.

Gutter guards on their own typically run $800–$3,500+. Pricing depends on the type of gutter protection system, the total linear footage, roof accessibility and whether the existing gutters need adjustments or repairs. Your own price comes after the free estimate; call (302) 314-1025 to book one.

Our Gutter Guards Process

The Home Fortress Roofing & Construction Gutter Guards Journey in Middletown

A guard job follows four stages, and the first one is about the gutter more than the guard.

  1. 01

    Check the gutters

We look at the gutters and fascia and show you photos before any guard goes on, including drone photos of the roof. The estimate is free.

  2. 02

    Talk through options

You get a plain recommendation and a free estimate. Must-do items are kept apart from recommendations. If the gutters themselves need replacing, we say so.

  3. 03

    Install the guards

The guards are fitted along each run. A guard should sit so the shingles stay flat and water lands on it. One Google reviewer tacked new gutters with gutter guards and new downspouts onto a storm door project.

  4. 04

    Clean up, walk around

The crew cleans up the property when the work is finished. We walk the job with you and show you the before and after photos.

I enjoyed working with Randy. Great price. Great work. He was punctual and his crew completed the job in one day. His crew spent close to an hour making sure the property was cleaned up after the job was finished. Randy was on sight during the day to inspect and provide updates on progress. He walked around the job with me upon completion to make sure I was satisfied with the work and clean up. Would highly recommend.

I had Randy from Home Fortress come out to take a look at my roof to make sure we were still in good space after all the storms this year. I really appreciated that he was honest and didn’t try to sell me a whole new roof when I didn’t need one. He found a few loose shingles and some nail pops, took care of the quick repairs, and explained everything clearly. It was refreshing working with someone who was more focused on fixing the problem than making a bigger sale. If you’re looking for someone who’s knowledgeable, easy to work with, and trustworthy, I’d definitely recommend Home Fortress.

I had an exceptional experience with Randy and his team from start to finish. The team is professional and courteous, and the project was completed on time. Randy communicated clearly every step of the way and answered my questions immediately. My roofing work was done with safety at the forefront and the work area was kept clean. It's refreshing to work with a company that values customer service, high-quality workmanship, and clear communication. I highly recommend Randy and his team!

FAQs

Gutter Guards in Middletown: Your Questions

Do you offer gutter cleaning in Middletown, DE?

No, we do not clean gutters. We install and replace gutters, and we install gutter guards. If cleaning is all you need, a gutter cleaning service is the right call.

Which type of gutter guard works for homes in Kent County, Delaware?

It depends on what falls on your roof: broad leaves are handled by most guard types, while pine needles, seed pods and shingle grit call for a finer mesh. Delaware also gets coastal storms with heavy rain, so how a guard copes with fast water matters. Ask us at the estimate which guard we are proposing and why.

Will gutter guards mean I never clean my gutters again in New Castle County?

No, and be wary of that promise from anyone. Guards reduce how much debris gets inside the gutter, but debris can still collect on top, especially below roof valleys and under heavy tree cover. Plan to look at the roof edge from the ground now and then, and again after a big storm.

Can gutter guards damage the shingles on a Middletown home?

They can if they are forced under the shingles carelessly, because lifting the first course can break the seal and leave the edge raised. A guard should sit so the shingles lie flat and water runs onto the guard. Roofing is our main trade, so ask us how the guard we propose sits against the shingles.

How much do gutter guards cost in Middletown, DE?

Gutter guards on their own typically cost $800–$3,500+. The type of guard system, the total linear footage, how easy the roof is to reach and whether your existing gutters need adjustments or repairs decide where you land. If the gutters need replacing too, gutter replacement has its own ranges. The estimate is free.

How do I get a gutter guard estimate in Middletown, Delaware?

Call (302) 314-1025; the estimate is free. Our hours are Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 6 PM and Saturday from 9 AM to 2 PM. We come to the house, look at the gutters and fascia, and show you photos of what we find.
