The Difference

Why Homeowners Choose Home Fortress Roofing & Construction for Door Installation in Middletown

  • A plan that can change

One Google reviewer wrote that they set out to replace both the front entry door and the storm door, then changed the plan. They replaced only the storm door and refreshed the existing entry door with fresh paint and hardware.

  • The sill gets the attention

Most door trouble starts at the bottom: the threshold, the sill under it and the lower ends of the side jambs. We look at the door, the frame and the sill and take photos. A rotted sill has to be repaired before a new door goes in.

  • Doors, gutters and trim together

The same reviewer added shutters, new gutters with gutter guards and new downspouts to the project. Those trades all meet at the front of a house.

How exterior door installation keeps water and wind out

An exterior door opens and closes many times a day, more than any other part of the wall, and still has to keep water and wind out. It takes direct sun and rain, and it sits at the bottom of the wall where water collects.

We install exterior doors, including entry doors and storm doors. A storm door mounts outside an entry door and takes the weather first.

More about door installation

Delaware's climate shows up at the door in predictable ways. In a humid summer a wood door or frame swells and starts to stick.

In winter it shrinks, and you can see daylight at the latch side. Our Parkside job post of August 11, 2026 says Middletown gets its fair share of high winds, and a gust can pull a storm door out of your hand and bend its closer.

What matters most is under the door. A proper installation starts with a pan or flashing at the sill that catches water that gets past the threshold and sends it back outside.

The sides are flashed next and the top last, each layer lapped over the one below. Without sill protection, water can rot the subfloor while the door still looks fine.

The frame has to be set plumb, level and square, or the door will not seal against its weatherstripping and the latch and deadbolt will bind.

The threshold has to sit flat and be sealed underneath, or water that blows against the door finds its way in below it. A storm door needs a solid, straight surface to mount to, so rotted outside casing is dealt with first, and one Google reviewer's project replaced only the storm door.

Doors also depend on what is above them. A gutter that overflows over the front entry pours water onto the head trim and splashes back at the bottom of the door.

We install roofs, gutters and gutter guards as well as doors, so an overflowing gutter above a rotted door frame can be replaced in the same job.

Our way of working is the same as on our roofing jobs. The estimate is free. We take photos of the door, the frame and the sill.

We keep must-do items apart from recommendations. When the door is in, the crew cleans up and we walk around the job with you.

Every door job is quoted after the free estimate. Call (302) 314-1025 to set up yours.

I enjoyed working with Randy. Great price. Great work. He was punctual and his crew completed the job in one day. His crew spent close to an hour making sure the property was cleaned up after the job was finished. Randy was on sight during the day to inspect and provide updates on progress. He walked around the job with me upon completion to make sure I was satisfied with the work and clean up. Would highly recommend.

I had Randy from Home Fortress come out to take a look at my roof to make sure we were still in good space after all the storms this year. I really appreciated that he was honest and didn’t try to sell me a whole new roof when I didn’t need one. He found a few loose shingles and some nail pops, took care of the quick repairs, and explained everything clearly. It was refreshing working with someone who was more focused on fixing the problem than making a bigger sale. If you’re looking for someone who’s knowledgeable, easy to work with, and trustworthy, I’d definitely recommend Home Fortress.

I had an exceptional experience with Randy and his team from start to finish. The team is professional and courteous, and the project was completed on time. Randy communicated clearly every step of the way and answered my questions immediately. My roofing work was done with safety at the forefront and the work area was kept clean. It's refreshing to work with a company that values customer service, high-quality workmanship, and clear communication. I highly recommend Randy and his team!

FAQs

Door Installation in Middletown: Your Questions

What kinds of exterior doors do you install in Middletown, DE?

Exterior doors, including entry doors and storm doors. Exterior doors are listed among our services along with roofing, siding, windows and gutters. We do not name a door brand on this site, so ask which product we are proposing and have it written on your estimate.

Why does my front door stick in summer in Delaware?

Humidity: wood doors and frames take on moisture in a Delaware summer and swell, so the door rubs at the top or the latch side. In winter it shrinks back and may show a gap. Soft wood or peeling paint at the bottom of the frame means water is getting in.

Do I need a new entry door or just a new storm door for my New Castle County home?

It depends on the condition of the entry door and its frame. One Google reviewer wrote that they planned to replace both, then replaced only the storm door and updated the existing entry door with paint and hardware. A solid door in a sound frame can be worth keeping, and we look at it and tell you plainly.

What causes rot at the bottom of a door frame on a Kent County home?

Water that sits: rain splashes back off the stoop, runs down the jambs and soaks the end grain at the bottom, and humid weather keeps it from drying. A missing sill pan, failed caulk at the threshold or a gutter overflowing above the door makes it worse, and all three are worth checking. We look at the door, the frame and the sill and take photos.

Can you install gutters or siding on the same project as a door in Middletown?

Yes, we install gutters, gutter guards and siding. One reviewer who started with a storm door went on to have us put up new shutters, new gutters with gutter guards and new downspouts. We do not clean gutters.
